The Town Hall dates back to 1873. It is an example of the aspirations and burgeoning wealth Melbourne was experiencing during the gold rush era, as well as the importance of local government at that time.
After Victorian local governments were amalgamated in 1994 (from 210 to 79) the Fitzroy Town Hall was largely vacated, It was renovated and re-opened for public use in 2007.
The venue centre is located approximately 3km north-east of the Melbourne City Centre and 10 minutes walk from Centre for Alcohol Policy Research, Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre.
